Packaging with a focus on organization in the car

Say goodbye to “ARE WE THERE YET?”

PROCESS
I had so much fun creating something for kids that was playful and not too visually serious. Coming up with names for colors (seatbelt black, roadwork red, … ), drawing activities, designing paper-cut assets, and recreating road trip symbols and icons came naturally when embracing the playful identity of this kit. Growing up, I went on tons of road trips with my family, so I understand how important it is to keep busy and organized in the car. Things like this are probably how I built an interest in puzzles, geography, and illustration. Rocky's Road Trip is a kit that younger me (and my fam) would have loved!

The packaging side of things was a bit more technical. I wanted to make a box that looked cool to kids, kept things organized, and was obvious what it was. I went with a two-part sliding box with a die-cut window to show off the pencil case inside. When closed, the box can be used as a workspace and a hard surface to draw on in the car. I also used bright light blue and yellow to represent the Rocky Mountains and make them stand out on store shelves. Oh, and the whole box is made from 100% recyclable paper products, so it's light and eco-friendly for traveling!
